The Center for Student Diversity and Inclusion , or the Center as known on campus, represents the importance of equity and inclusive excellence in every aspect of the Carnegie Mellon student experience. We are a team-oriented unit, with dual reporting lines to the Division of Student Affairs and the Vice Provost for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion & Inaugural Chief Diversity Officer. The Center for Student Diversity and Inclusion enhances the student experience by cultivating cultural engagement, fostering a sense of belonging, and challenging systems of privilege and oppression. We work to support the success of socially marginalized student populations by developing inclusive communities, facilitating active mentorship, and building personal empowerment. These outcomes are accomplished by collaboration with students, staff, faculty, and alumni. Our goal is to develop creative and engaging programmatic experiences, on and off campus that increase intercultural competency and promote inclusivity.

We are seeking a bold, creative, and energetic leader with a passion for working in a student-centered environment. Preferred candidates for the Associate Director of Student Programs and Engagement position should have experience with building inclusive communities and progressive leadership. In this new role, you will oversee day to day administrative operations, facilitate annual departmental programs, and promote student engagement within the Center. Reporting to the Executive Director, you will lead a team of three+ full-time staff.

You should demonstrate :

• Strong understanding of contemporary diversity, equity, inclusion, multiculturalism concepts and issues, especially as they apply to recruitment and retention, access, curriculum, the educational impact of diversity, and the policy and legal dynamics of inclusion & equity work, etc.;
• Experience in diversity infrastructures with a steadfast commitment to equity, justice, and inclusion;
• Demonstrated success in leadership, supervision, and financial management with proven ability for strategy development, campus programming, and community development to accentuate evidence-based standard methodologies;
• Ability to use data to impact program development and organizational change;
• Successful track record of leading projects in a multi-stakeholder environment
• Advanced skill in staff development and performance management
• Advanced interpersonal and intercultural communication skills; and
• Capability to facilitate presentations and address large campus and community audiences.
• Work collaboratively with various campus partners.
• Represent Center for Student Diversity & Inclusion on any divisional committees, task forces, or other DEI based initiatives as priorities evolve within the Center's vision.
• Identify new opportunities and disseminate innovative assessment methods in alignment with the Center's strategic planning goals.

Core responsibilities will include:

• Provide supervision and strategic oversight of the administrative and programmatic functions of The Center for Diversity and Inclusion. This includes:
  • Supervision of full-time and part-time professional staff,
  • Program planning and assignment of work-related task that align with the Center's strategic vision.
  • Management of day-to-day administrative operation
  • Budget stewardship
• Develop a communication and marketing plan for connecting with, faculty/staff, donor, and alumni to the life of the Center.
• Coordinate student support during critical incident moments on campus or in the broader global community.
• Crafting and applying formative assessment programs to measure the impact of programs and initiatives in the Center.
• Create assessment reports on programs and strategic initiatives for the Center.

Essential Functions (% of effort)

45% - Cultivate and implement the student engagement and programmatic elements of the Center, including supervision/professional development of 3+ professional staff members and Graduate Ambassadors/Interns, strategic program planning, implementation of identity and leadership development curricula and budget stewardship.

20% - Design and implement qualitative and quantitative assessment programs under the leadership of the Executive Director of the Center to measure and report on impact of Center programs, campus climate and student belongingness.

10% - Engage with Center response and student support during critical incident moments on campus or in broader community.

10% - Build and successfully maintain collaborative campus and community partnerships for implementation of student development, leadership, and identity-based programming initiatives.

10% - Support the general functions of the Center via routine staff meetings, participation in campus events and signature Center programs as well as other duties as assigned including serving as a primary advisor for designated student organizations or program with special attention to the Center's identity and cultural affinity based belongingness initiatives

5% - Other duties as assigned.

Work Schedule and Environment

This is a full-time, in-person position. Evening or weekend work may be required to support university and organizational deadlines, programs, and events.

Qualifications

• Master's degree required.
• Minimum five years of dynamic leadership experience in the field of higher education required with a record of progressive leadership at the graduate and/or undergraduate level related to advancing diversity, inclusion, and equity work.
• Knowledge of national trends associated with the LGBTQA+ community, and other historically underrepresented student populations in higher education.
• Experience with fund development, donor relations, and alumni engagement at the undergraduate and graduate level
• Teaching experience at the undergraduate level is valued.
