Controller

We are searching for an experienced Controller at our Goldsmith Campus - Westchester campus. 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

The Controller is a full-time exempt position reporting to the VP of Finance & Administration. This position is responsible for general ledger management, financial reporting, external audit preparation, and internal control assessment and improvement functions of the Business/ Finance Services Office. This position provides support for the members of the Business Office and ensures processes and procedures are in place to support effective internal controls.

CORE DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: 


• Responsible for preparation of financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
• Working in coordination with the Executive Director of Accounting & Business Services on monthly, quarterly, and annual financial and accounting close process.
• Plan and facilitate aspects of the annual audit ensuring we meet necessary deadlines.  Prepare footnotes and pro forma statements for the audit.
• Responsible for annual tax filings and ensures compliance with regulatory agencies.  Responsible for the preparation of Form 990, Form 571-L, FSA EZ Audit, and AICAD Compliance.
• Responsible for maintenance and review of the accounting structure of the ERP.
• Reconciles accounts to the College's financial system. Researches and resolves problems and adjusts accordingly. Ensures supporting documentation exists for audit purposes.
• Maintain bank relationships, manage debt covenant reporting for bank & oversee various transactions (wire transfers, ACH, etc).
• Working in coordination with the Executive Director of Accounting & Business Services to oversee the general ledger to ensure accuracy and completeness of data.
• Collect and formats data for special projects and management studies and/or reviews data gathered by others for accuracy. Prepares various financial reports, as required.
• Keep abreast of and evaluate the feasibility of Banner updates, features, system modifications, and enhancements.
• Serve as subject matter expert on the Banner Finance & AR modules, transact, destiny one and any third-party software that talks to banner finance and receivables including integrations, and reporting.
• Work with IT partners to roll out new technology initiatives that support finance functions and maintain administrative subject matter duties on them after implementation (Sap Concur, document management and Prophix)
• Provide assessment and recommendations for changes, improvements, enhancements, strategies and tactics surrounding Banner finance and AR updates and releases, etc.
• Work with IT on strengthening the reporting capabilities of daily, month end and yearly closes aided with banner reports, Argos custom reports and Prophix financials. Be responsible for resolving out of balance conditions as they appear.
• May act as a lead to other accountants, financial staff, and/or student workers with work assignments, problem resolution, and/or with special projects. Provides leadership guidance as needed. Assists in training or scheduling work assignments as required.

Required Qualifications:

• Experience with accounting methods and procedures related to specialized accounts such as those involving monthly financial reporting and tax reporting • Thorough knowledge of accounting practices and procedures. • Knowledge of auditing standards. • Experience with integrated financial software packages with preference for Banner, an Ellucian ERP. • Proficient in the interpretation and translation of regulatory requirements into proposed new/revised policy and procedures. • Demonstrated problem solving, decision-making and analytical skills. • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills. • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel. • Ability to supervise, coach, lead and develop the operations and activities of assigned operational area and staff. • Exhibits a strong customer service orientation for all levels of college constituencies and members of the public. • Ability to take appropriate steps to promote and sustain effective working relationships within a diverse multicultural environment. • Understanding of departmental goals and how they fit with college-wide goals. • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related field required.

PREFERRED SKILLS and EXPERIENCE:  

• 5+ years management operations of a business office function (preferably in a higher education, or non-profit environment, including accounts payable, cashiering and banking and supervision of others.  • CPA or CPA in progress

FLSA Status: Exempt

Compensation Type: Annual Salary

Salary Range: 129,255.00 - 161,568.00
