Job Description and Duties

Under the direction of the Lieutenant, the Custodian collects and disposes of garbage and cleans garbage receptacles throughout the facility, cleans and dusts file cabinets, desks, cabinets, counters, tables, fixtures, equipment, furniture, and tops of lockers. Cleans and maintains all interior walls and ceilings. Maintains all floors, sweeps with a broom or dry/wet mop. Strips, cleans, and waxes floors as needed. Vacuums/cleans rugs. Cleans windows, walls, and other surfaces. Maintains restroom facilities, cleans and disinfects sinks, urinals, and toilet bowls. Replenishes toilet tissue and paper towel dispensers. Cleans and polishes surfaces as needed. Mops floors with a disinfectant cleaner to ensure the sanitary condition of the facility. Maintains the kitchen/employee break rooms, ensuring the cleanliness of the stoves refrigerators, tables, and other furniture and equipment. Removes debris from the parking lot and areas surrounding garbage bin, planters, and other grounds. Empties trash receptacles and sweeps and washes off walkways. Wipes/washes exterior walls and equipment, including gas facilities and temporary structures. Cleans exterior windows. Weeds, waters, and maintains ornamental plantings, shrubs, and trees in and around the building and parking areas. Assists in making minor repairs to the office building, furniture and equipment to ensure their safe and satisfactory condition. Assists office staff in moving/rearranging/storing furniture, supplies, and equipment. Maintains adequate stock of janitorial equipment and supplies. Coordinates with supervisors in ordering supplies and keeping inventory, and other job-related duties within the scope of the classification.

Working Conditions

The Los Banos Area office is open Monday through Friday, from 8:00 A.M. to 5 P.M., excluding holidays.
