About the Job:

The Mine Ventilation Engineer will report to the Senior Mine Engineer and is responsible for the design, implementation, and optimization of underground mine ventilation systems, including modeling, monitoring, and compliance reporting. This position operates on a rotational schedule: 15 days on-site at a remote mine located approximately 45 miles north of Juneau (accessible only via company-provided transportation) and 13 days off.

Responsibilities:

• Design, analyze, and optimize underground mine ventilation systems to ensure safe and efficient airflow for operations, adhering to regulatory standards and best practices.
• Conduct ventilation surveys, analyze airflow, and compile reports to maintain compliance with safety and environmental requirements.
• Develop and maintain ventilation models using software such as VentSim to support short- and long-term planning.
• Collaborate with Mine Operations, Geology, and Survey teams to integrate ventilation needs into weekly, monthly, and annual mine plans.
• Monitor and manage ventilation-related infrastructure, including fans, regulators, and seals, ensuring efficient operation and minimal downtime.
• Participate in multidisciplinary projects, including infrastructure planning, backfill designs, and mine sequencing to support production goals.
• Assist with daily/weekly/monthly tracking and reporting of key ventilation metrics, including airflow volumes, gas levels, and equipment performance.
• Support emergency preparedness by contributing to escape and rescue plans, as well as training staff on ventilation protocols.
• Seek cross-training opportunities to develop a broader understanding of other engineering functions at the site, such as ground control, paste backfill, and short-range planning.

Required Qualifications & Skills:

• Ability to work safe and promote safe behavior in others.
• Responsibilities and compensation will be based upon experience. 1-3 years of experience preferred working within a mining environment. Internships considered.
• Knowledge of underground ventilation systems and familiarity with ventilation modeling program, preferably VentSim
• The ability to follow complex written and oral instructions, with sound knowledge of mining methods, costs, and productivity is required. Strong verbal and written communications skills are critical to this position.
• Proficiency with Vulcan, Deswik (or similar) mine planning software, and Microsoft Office computer software greatly desired
• Sets high standards for self and others, builds trust, and takes accountability.
• Preference given to Alaskan residents.
